The past couple weeks we have been studying leadership in our Sunday School time. Won’t you join us to engage in this learning!
The Lord God does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart. l Samuel l6:7
Regardless of a person’s looks, education, or financial or social status, leadership qualities are within and need to be modeled after God’s pattern for leadership. God’s choice of a person for service is sometimes contrary to human reason. but God looks at the heart in choosing individuals to do great things for Him.
In today’s society, we place a great deal of emphasis on externals. Fashion experts dictate what people should wear to reflect the image they are trying to project. Annually, thousands of people flock to plastic surgeons in order to remain youthful looking in their battle against the aging process. No matter how people look on the outside, the most important thing from God’s standpoint is the condition of their hearts. And God’s standpoint is what matters! John Wesley was a true leader. In preaching more than 40,000 sermons and traveling over 250,000 miles on horseback to communicate the message of life change through Jesus, Wesley portrayed the true image of a leader. Here are some of his words:
“We should be rigorous in judging ourselves and gracious in judging others.”
“Though we cannot think alike, may we not love alike? May we not be of one heart, though we are not of one opinion? Without all doubt, we may. Herein all the children of God may unite, not withstanding these smaller differences.”
“I want to know one thing, the way to heaven; how to land safe on that happy shore. God Himself has condescended to teach the way; for this end He came from Heaven. He hath written it down in a book. Give me that book! At any price give me the Book of God.” (Wesley quotes copied from Gary Runn)
