God Dwells Among His People

Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.

Exodus 40:34

People have a longing, whether conscious or unconscious, to experience the presence of God. Songs have been sung, sermons have been preached, and prayers have been offered uttering this desire for God to reveal himself to His people. Though this regard for God is common, the revelation of God is uncommon. The book of Exodus clearly shows that the problem is not a lack of willingness on God’s part to reveal Himself. Rather, the problem was a lack of willingness in the Israelites to position themselves to receive God’s revelation of himself. As a holy being, God could only dwell in a place of holiness among a people who hadade themselves as holy as possible. The same is still true today. Those who experience the glory and guidance of God are those who are living in obedience to all God’s commands. Obedience is a combination of hearing and heeding God. Am I doing my best to hear everything God is saying to me?
