Faith for the Journey

Yet he did not waiver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.

Romans 4:20

Today’s scripture: Romans 4:13-25

In Genesis 17:1, God told Abraham, “Walk before me and be blameless”. In Romans 4, Paul used Abraham’s story as scriptural support for Paul’s claim that righteousness comes only by faith. At the same time, he showed how faith is essential for the walk of holinessfor Abraham and for us.

The Bible frequently uses “walking” or “joumey” to illustrate human life. In various scriptures, We are admonished to “walk humbly before God”, to “walk in the light and not in darkness”, to “walk wisely and in love”. As we walk through this life, the relationship we have with God through Jesus makes all the difference. The Bible is our travel guide in our journey. Our walk through this earthly life will have a successful end only if we follow the teaching in God’s Word. The righteousness that comes by faith guarantees us an inheritance and provides strength, even for impossibilities, as we walk the way of holiness.

Not all roads are smooth and easily traveled. Abraham faced many trials, but his faith in the One true God caused him to be a man of faith whose story was told in the faith chapter, Hebrews 11. Abraham faced many impossibilities, but his faith grew stronger with each of those trials. In most instances, Abraham was told only what he needed to know to strengthen his faith. Those facts were revealed step by step in Abraham’s journey of righteousness and his faith was credited to him by God. Because of his strong faith, Abraham was “fully persuaded that God had power to do what He had promised”. How do you rate your faith in God? Are you fully persuaded He has power to do all things? If not, why not?
